Description
Meet Rochelle Evans. She’s sixteen. Pretty, popular, a good-girl and she’s never been kissed. Meet Noah Flynn, her best friend Lee’s older brother. Bad-ass, violent, and he’s a total player. So when Elle and Lee decide to do a kissing booth for the Spring Carnival, she doesn’t expect her life to turn upside down and inside out. Elle’s going to fight what her heart wants every step of the way. This is Elle’s story, and it’s going to be one messy, bumpy romance that’s nothing like the fairy tales say. But will she get her happily ever after?
********************
“Do you want a drink?” Lee called from the kitchen as I shut the front door.
“No, thanks,” I called back. “I’ll head on up to your room.”
“Sure thing.”
I headed up the staircase to Lee’s room. I’ll never stop wondering at how big Lee’s house is, it’s practically a mansion. There’s a room downstairs complete with a fifty-inch TV and surround sound, not to mention the pool table, even. And not to forget the pool and the hot tub outside.
Lee’s house is all expensive and grand, and even though I treat it like a second home the only place I feel really, really comfortable is his bedroom.
I opened the door to his room, the sunlight spilling in through the open doors leading out to his small balcony overlooking the garden. Posters of bands covered the walls, his drum kit sat in the corner next to a guitar, and his Apple Mac was proudly displayed on a smart mahogany desk that matched the rest of the furniture.
But, just like any other sixteen year old boy’s room, the floor was littered with t-shirts and underpants and stinky socks, a half-eaten sandwich was festering next to the Apple Mac, and empty cans were crumpled over mostly ever surface.
I launched myself on Lee’s bed, loving how it bounced when you did that.
We’ve been best friends since we were born. Our moms both knew each other from college and I only lived a ten minute walk away now. Lee and I grew up together. We may as well be twins though – we were even born on the same day, freakishly enough.
He’s my best friend. Always has been and always will be.
Even if he does annoy the hell out of me most of the time.
He turned up just at that moment, holding two opened bottles of J20, knowing I’d have drunk his at some point anyway.
“We need to decide what we’re doing for the carnival,” I said.
“I know,” he sighed, messing up his dark brown hair and scrunching up his freckled face. “Can’t we just do a coconut thing? You know when they throw balls and try to knock the coconuts down?”
I shook my head. “That’s what I thought -“
“Of course it is.”
I smirked a little. “But we can’t. It’s already taken.”
“Why do we have to come up with a booth anyway? Can’t we just manage the whole event and make other people come up with the booths?”
“Hey, you’re the one who said being on the school council would look good on our college applications.”
“You’re the one who agreed to it.”
“Because I wanted to be on the dance committee,” I pointed out. “I didn’t realize we had to work on the carnival too.”
“This sucks.”
“I know. Oh, hey, what about if we hired one of those, um… You know,” I said, gesturing with my hands like I was holding a hammer and hitting it down, “those things with the hammer.”
“Where they test your strength?”
“Yeah. That thing.”
“No, they already ordered one of those.”
I sighed. “I don’t know then. There’s not much left to do, everything’s already taken.”
We looked at each other and both said, “I told you we should’ve started planning this earlier.”
The two of us laughed and Lee sat at his computer, spinning around on the chair slowly, tapping the back of it thoughtfully.
“Haunted house?”
I gave him a flat look – well, I tried. It wasn’t easy to catch his eye when he was spinning around like that.
“It’s spring, Lee. Not Halloween.”
“Yeah, so?”
“No. No haunted house.”
“Fine,” he grumbled. “Then what do you suggest, nerd?”

I’m so happy I read this book. Even though, from my point of view, the movie was better this time, let’s not forget that the idea came from the book. And yes, the movie was 80% different. A lot of aspects were changed. But still, the most important things were kept. And that’s why I cried like a baby when I saw the movie. And yeah, maybe I shed a..more
Allow me to explain. I didn't find this story on WattPad; my mom told me about how a 17 year old had gotten a 3-book deal w..more
For brevity's sake, I will limit my review to one main reason it was terrible: it was written by a 17 year old girl. The writing was ok (I'm being generous, because she is after all 17.) The main problem is a 17 year old girl can't write realistic fiction realistically. The author writes about exactly the kind of world that a 17 year old THINKS they live in: no rules, no accountability, no consequences. A world where you get want you want, just by..more
“Just think. All this, just from the kissing booth.”
First things first . . . . .
I would give that cat every single one of my dollars.
Now let’s get on with the show.
When nearly every minute of your life serves as a reminder that . . . .
Sometimes you need a little story like The Kissing Booth to help you feel like a kid again. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this was written by a kid. A 17 year old to be exact and she actuall..more
The utter insipidity, the fundamental mediocrity of this, coupled with the fact that not only Random bought it, but Netflix made a film of it, and that millions of teens fell for it, gives me a major fright. I mean. Major.
Thank God I regularly see several teenage readers here on GR who show a markedly higher level of erudition.
I had such such high hopes for this, I saw the movie on Netflix, and thought to myself oh maybe this will be a guilty pleasure like The Duff, I literally LOVED that and thought maybe it would be the same for this. Sadly I was wrong, and I'm feeling pretty disappointed to say the least.

Beth Reekles, a bestselling English author, has penned a sweet and pretty entertaining teenage contemporary fiction called, The Kissing Booth that revolves around a female high school teenager, who with her bestie, plans to run a kissing booth for their school's summer spring carnival, sadly, the girl, who has never been kissed or ever dated anyone, falls a victim to her bestie's older brother's Casanova charms..more
This book was pretty sweet.
I'd recommend this book to younger teens. It's the kind of story I would have lapped up when I was thirteen and fourteen, very fluffy and girly.
I certainly got exasperated at points. I couldn't understand why she (or anyone!) wanted to be with Noah: he was definitely a bully. Threatening and physically hurting other guys just for talking to her? I beg your pardon? He controlled her love life and she never even knew, then when she did find..more
I only read this because I wanted to watch the movie and I have this weird, 'must read the book before you can watch the movie' kind of thing going on. I'm hoping the movie will be better and more of a true love story.
Though, it did have its similarities. I found that a..more
I will start off by saying kudos to 17-year old Beth Reekles for being able to write a novel, and for being able to reach such a large number of readers on Wattpad.
With that being said, what follows is a short review, because frankly, I feel like I've devoted too much time to this book already just by reading it and actually being able to fi..more
Let me go look in the mirror to make sure I didn't pull all my hair out......
I'm exaggerating, of course. It wasn't really bad, I just didn't really like it.
It was more or less flat and not too creative. everything was fine up until the actual kissing booth scene and then everything went steadily downhill from there as I lost my patience little by little.
So just a quick overview so you know what I'm talking about:
Rochelle is the main character. Her best friend is a boy..more
Wattpad has offered me a lot of stories to read; in fact, some of those I've read have been published. I'm surprised to find The Kissing Booth on Goodreads (I'm not sure why), but it's here and I'm giving it 5 bright stars.

Edit 1:
Just because a story is very popular in Wattpad, doesn't mean it's good.
It is about a 16 year old girl named Rochelle, she also goes by the name Elle or Shelly. Rochelle & her best friend Lee have to come up with an idea for their booth for the carnival at school. After a lot of thinking they finally come up with the idea of creating a Kissing Booth. Lee has an older brother nam..more
I checked to see where the writer was born and discovered that Reekles was British, so that explained everything!
I felt the novel had British written characters living in America. That probably explains why I connected with them so easily as I could recognise their actions through my own school experiences.
I really liked El..more
The Kissing Booth is an enjoyable lighthearted YA romance.
Elle and Lee have been besties forever, but can their relationship survive Elle falling for Lee’s brother, Noah . . .
This is one where the movie is definitely better than the book. I found myself a bit confused halfway through the book, trying to figure out what Noah was meant to have done that he needed to apologise for. The plotting in the movie was much tighter. There were a couple of grammar issues and some typos, but they didn..more
The main problems I had with the book are that about 2/3 of the way through the book everything hits the fan, which you expect to happen obviously, but for some reason everything flip-flops. All of a sudden Noah is the bad guy when Rochelle was the one making the stupid decisions. When he comes back, he's saying he'll 'do it right this time' and he's the enemy to her dad and h..more
Im not gonna tell you what the book is about, read the synopsis, but what I can tell you is that it absolutely SUCKED. Not only is it about the most toxic codependent friendship Ive ever read, which was in no way cute or sweet. It was also full of annoying dialogue, Ive actually pulled a muscle from all the eye-rolling I did. Not to mention the 'romantic' moments werent re..more

Just watched the movie (ITS ON NETFLIX, EVERYONE!) and I loved it so much! It was romantic af but also pretty down to earth about relationships (like not just romantic relationships) and I loved it. Gonna do a reread of this soon to write a prope..more
Is another novel that has come to light as a result of Wattpad, that rancid nest of One Direction wank fantasies and low-grade Twilight offripping. And much like its fellow Wattpad stablemate The Dark Heroine it's by a teenager, this time one who glories in the name of Beth Reekles.
That's not actually her name, her real name is Beth Reeks. I bet she got bullied at school. Yes. Beth Reeks. And so does this novel, which manages to make Mills & Boon look profound. Seriously. As such, given that..more
I got really excited to read this book. I had the afternoon free and I was gonna finish it in a day and watch the movie after cause I liked the trailer. But I started reading, and here's the really annoying part: the characters.
Now I know, this was a Wattpad book at the beginning (I could write an essay about Wattpad and how cancerous it is), and this book was written by a teen girl. The writing isn't too bad (with some dialogue problems that stand out), but I was do..more
I'm TEN PLUS years too late reading this book, it is a 'YOUNG' YA, the dialogue is cliched and storyline is predictable.
SWEET, CUTE and FLUFFY - Quick easy read. Unfortunately I found the immaturity of the characters grated on me at points in the story .. The positives include well thought out plot, lovely ending, easy going read, a glimpse of first love.
